Little Beehive Nursery group are delighted to announce that we have received our Millie’s Mark accreditation becoming the largest group in Scotland to make the pledge at all 5 of our branches.

Little Beehive Nursery group are delighted to announce that we have received our Millie’s Mark accreditation becoming the largest group in Scotland to make the pledge at all 5 of our branches.

Millie's Mark is awarded as a special endorsement to childcare providers that go above and beyond these minimum requirements by having 100% of practicing staff trained in paediatric first aid, and also ensuring that everything learned during the course is kept alive and in the forefront of practitioners' minds so that they are confident, ready and capable.

When a setting gains the Millie's Mark accreditation, it provides reassurance for your parents/carers that all childcare practitioners know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation.

“At Little Beehive, we believe in the best, and part of that is making sure that we have the best safety standards possible – to achieve that, we feel this is a required step for us .” Director Carol Craig commented.

“We’ve always felt the current guidance in Scotland falls short of what it could be, we would love to see this more formally addressed by policymakers and perhaps make it part of mandatory training”, Carol Continued.

Currently, there are no specific requirements for the number of paediatric first aid-trained staff under Scotland's Health and Social Care Standards

The Millie’s Mark pledge means that Little Beehive will guarantee all current and future staff will have the relevant paediatric first aid training while working at a Little Beehive Branch.

“We would like to extend a challenge to all nurseries/Pre-Schools/playgroups in Scotland, especially in our local communities, to make the Millie’s Mark guarantee. We couldn’t believe it when we found out we were the largest single group in Scotland to sign up!” Carol Continued.

Millie's Mark offers a pathway and support for nurseries who are interested in making the pledge and are encouraging nurseries from Scotland to sign up.

Little Beehive Montrose manager Megan Burness commented, “Receiving this recognition is a huge accomplishment for the Little Beehive Montrose team, and we are sure the service we provide as a result has improved. This has not only given the team a better understanding of how to deal with possible first aid situations that might arise, but also improved their general understanding of first aid. I would like to extend a big thank you to Millie’s Mark for guiding us through the accreditation process.”

All practicing Little beehive employees are now qualified in paediatric first aid, with a recent training session of 17 individuals taking place for new employees.

“We have to keep on top of it, it’s important to us that we offer the safest possible environment, we appreciate that no-one likes to talk about the worst-case scenario, but it’s our job to consider all possibilities and mitigate them where possible.” Carol commented.

Local MSP Mairi Gougeon (SNP), visited Little Beehive Nursery Montrose to congratulate the staff on their recent accreditation and talk to Manager Megan about the training and accreditation.

"I really enjoyed meeting everyone at the Little Beehive Nursery in Montrose.  Not only was it great to see the children enjoying themselves whilst learning valuable skills in a fun environment, it was great getting the opportunity to meet the brilliant, dedicated team who are clearly passionate about what they do and the support they provide. The team at Little Beehive go above and beyond for the children in their care and this accreditation should give parents that reassurance that their little ones are in great hands.” - Mairi Gougeon MSP

“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing Millie’s Mark team who have helped us through the process, it’s been a fantastic experience. We know because of Millie’s mark, our amazing team knows how to respond to any situation that might arise within our nurseries.”, Carol continued.
