Hi everyone! My name’s Amanda Carlin and I’ve been working as an in early years practitioner for 11 years, joining the team here at Little Beehive Nursery in 2011. I work in early years because I find it such a rewarding job, I love making a positive difference in children’s lives. It’s amazing to be part of the journey children go on when learning and exploring through play.

My vision for the nursery is to ensure that all children have a happy and safe place to play and learn. To encourage and promote outdoor play, learning and development through natural resources and open ended play. To develop strong partnerships with the local community, outside agencies and to support and promote children’s rights. I am currently studying for my BA in childhood practice at Edinburgh University which I’m due to complete this April.

Hello there, I’m Lead Practitioner at our Little Beehive Nursery in Newport on Tay, Donna Smith! My passion is childcare. I started caring for and educating children as a Trainee at the age of 16 when I wanted to learn more about the theory behind childcare. This led to me attending a two-year night course at college to gain my PDA in childhood practices.

My experience with childcare has been in private nurseries and as a nanny for families. I started working for Little Beehive Nursery in 2016 as a Senior Early Years Practitioner, through my development I have since progressed to Lead Practitioner. I am currently qualified to PDA Childhood Practice Level 8 and have recently applied to the University of Dundee to study BA Childhood

    Hi, I'm Faye!

I first began working in early years back in 2002 when I embarked on a career as a childminder, during this time I cared for over twenty-five children. I continued to do this until 2015 when I joined Little Beehive Nursery as Lead Practitioner.  In 2016 I completed my SVQ Level 4 and I am currently working towards a BA in Childhood Practice at Edinburgh University.  I come from a large family with four sisters and three brothers; I believe this is where my love of childcare stems from. My vision is to nurture happy children to develop a love for learning, enabling them to feel respected, healthy and confident. In doing so, my hope is for them to become responsible individuals who are inspired to make a difference in our community. I have been married for 22 years and have two older children, who I love to spend time with. In my spare time I enjoy running, singing in a choir, reading, listening to music and watching movies.

My Name is Megan and I am the Lead Practitioner at Montrose Little Beehive Nursery.

I joined the Little Beehive family back in 2011 and since then have built up years of first-hand experience. I started my childcare career with a twelve-month work-based apprenticeship where I developed the knowhow, passion and ambition that has supported me in achieving what I have in my career so far. To further develop in my current position I am about to embark in a BA in Childhood Practice Degree at Dundee University which will challenge, change and shape my job knowledge and ethos to continually improve the quality of care and provision within my nursery setting. I admire working with children and their families as I believe that supporting them in achieving their potential, is a huge privilege and fulfilling way to undertake my day-to-day role.

Hello! I’m Lisa and I’ve been working here at Little Beehive in our Kirkcaldy nursery for eight years. My passion for childcare started at an early age and after attending college, gaining both my NC and HNC in Childcare and Education, I came to Little Beehive Nursery. Since then I have gone onto complete my SVQ4 in Social Services, Children and Young People and I am now working towards my BA in Childhood Practice.

Since starting with Little Beehive Nursery as a Practitioner, I have had the opportunity to grow and develop within my career, which led to me progressing to Lead Practitioner within our Kirkcaldy nursery.

At Little Beehive Kirkcaldy, we strive to create an environment that is safe, secure, happy, caring, nurturing and challenging. We believe that every child is unique and should be treated as an individual. This gives every child the opportunity to develop and learn in an environment where play and learning is combined, and ensures our children have the best possible start to their education and social development.

  • Ethos

Little Beehive Nursery thrives on a child-centred ethos that allows children to make their own choices. Children are encouraged to establish their own ideas towards prompting competent communication and learning.  The core of child-centred education is to help the child become independent, responsible and confident. Practitioners who use this approach want to cover all areas of growth including social, emotional and physical. Child-centred practitioners engage in an 'active learning' process, with the aim of helping the child develop the knowledge and skills needed in all competency areas. Child-centred education inspires and encourages children to explore what they are most curious about. Children direct their own learning; fostering a curiosity that will stick with them for life. Every child responds better to a different learning style. The child’s ideas, preferences, and curiosities are all taken into account.

Child-centred education inspires children to want to learn by giving them the steering wheel to their own educational path. This style of learning helps children become more independent. Children learn to direct their fascinations, ask questions and work on their own as well as part of a group. Children-centred education emphasises the importance of group work. This is done by encouraging children to collaborate on activities that broaden their minds. This approach considers the act of play as a type of work or lesson. When children play, they consistently learn, hence Little Beehive Nursery's ethos - 'Learn through Play'
