Little Beehive Nursery group are delighted to announce that we have received our Millie’s Mark accreditation becoming the largest group in Scotland to make the pledge at all 5 of our branches.

Little Beehive Nursery group are delighted to announce that we have received our Millie’s Mark accreditation becoming the largest group in Scotland to make the pledge at all 5 of our branches.

Millie's Mark is awarded as a special endorsement to childcare providers that go above and beyond these minimum requirements by having 100% of practicing staff trained in paediatric first aid, and also ensuring that everything learned during the course is kept alive and in the forefront of practitioners' minds so that they are confident, ready and capable.

When a setting gains the Millie's Mark accreditation, it provides reassurance for parents/carers that all childcare practitioners know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation.

“At Little Beehive, we believe in the best, and part of that is making sure that we have the best safety standards possible – to achieve that, we feel this is a required step for us .” Director Carol Craig commented.

“We’ve always felt the current guidance in Scotland falls short of what it could be, we would love to see this more formally addressed by policymakers and perhaps make it part of mandatory training”, Carol Continued.

Currently, there are no specific requirements for the number of paediatric first aid-trained staff under Scotland's Health and Social Care Standards for nurseries.

The Millie’s Mark pledge means that Little Beehive will guarantee all current and future staff will have the relevant paediatric first aid training while working at a Little Beehive Branch.

“We would like to extend a challenge to all nurseries/Pre-Schools/playgroups in Scotland, especially in our local communities, to make the Millie’s Mark guarantee. We couldn’t believe it when we found out we were the largest single group in Scotland to sign up!” Carol Continued.

Millies mark offers a pathway and support for nurseries who are interested in making the pledge and are encouraging nurseries from Scotland to sign up.

Little Beehive Cupar manager Tony Rigby commented, “Here at Little Beehive Nursery in Cupar we are delighted to have been accredited with ‘Millie’s Mark’. The team are all aware of the importance of not only having first aid knowledge but also having the practical skills required. They all work so hard supporting each other to grow in confidence helping to keep the children safe and respond effectively to any first aid situation that may arise. Thank you to the Millie’s Mark team for awarding the nursery team with a Millie’s Mark accreditation.”

All practicing Little beehive employees are now qualified in paediatric first aid, with a recent training session of 17 individuals taking place for new employees.

“We have to keep on top of it, it’s important to us that we offer the safest possible environment, we appreciate that no-one likes to talk about the worst-case scenario, but it’s our job to consider all possibilities and mitigate them where possible.” Carol commented.

Local MSP Willies Rennie (Liberal Democrats), visited a local Little Beehive to congratulate the staff on their recent accreditation and talk to Manager Tony about the training and accreditation.

“The wellbeing and safety of our children is entrusted to staff in nurseries across the country. It is a huge responsibility which is why I was delighted to learn about the excellent work at the Little Beehive nurseries to ensure that all staff are trained in paediatric first aid. It goes beyond what is expected by government and the regulators and is an indication of the quality of care and education provided by the nurseries and the staff.” – Willie Rennie MSP, Liberal Democrats

“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing Millie’s Mark team who have helped us through the process, it’s been a fantastic experience. We know because of Millie’s mark, our amazing team knows how to respond to any situation that might arise within our nurseries.”, Carol continued.
